Cruelty-Free Dry Shampoo

Welcome to Cruelty-Free Summer Series Part 8: Dry Shampoos! It’s mid-August, but I’m hanging on to summer as long as I can. There’s still time to hangout at the beach, ride a bike, go on a hike, and play outdoor sports. I have long, fine hair, and with outdoor activities comes LOTS of dry shampoo.

I don’t wash my hair everyday because of how much extra time it takes me and it actually makes my hair healthier by skipping washes. But doing that definitely requires dry shampoo. Which ones are cruelty-free and vegan? Which is the best for my hair type? Keep reading to find out!

Different Types of Dry Shampoo

First, let’s talk about the different types of dry shampoo. Typically there are two main types: powder or foam. Dry shampoo powder could come as an aerosol container or non-aerosol. Non-aerosol may be what you’re looking for if you plan to travel and pack dry shampoo in your carry-on luggage. Dry shampoo foam is helpful if you have tight curls/waves, or if your hair is easily weighed down. No matter what you’re looking for, there is a cruelty-free dry shampoo for you!

Talc-Free?

Talc is in a TON of products we all use every day, including dry shampoo. Talc has been banned in several areas around the world because it can cause irreparable damage to your body. Talcum powder has been known to contain asbestos, nickel, lead, and many other dangerous elements.

If you only use clean beauty products, you may be actively trying to avoid products that contain talc. Talc is in many dry shampoos, but there are also talc-free options. I have listed those below as well.

Cruelty-free dry shampoos

All brands listed below are 100% cruelty-free, including their parent companies. I have also labeled which products are vegan-friendly and which products contain talc. However, product formulations do change, so be sure to double check the products’ ingredient lists.

What type of dry shampoo do you like to use on your hair? Let me know in the comments below! My favorite talc-free dry shampoo right now is Phantom from Amika. It’s extremely nourishing on my dry/itchy scalp and keeps my fine hair volumized! You can read a full review over on my Instagram here!
